Kindergarten - Mrs. Good

Greetings from Kindergarten!

Originally from the Willamette Valley in Oregon; we moved to Surprise in May 2013. When the opportunity arose to teach in Concho Elementary, I jumped at it! The friendly people,  recreational opportunities, beautiful scenery,  and the weather, which is similar to Central Oregon's, were big attractions.

My education includes M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education from Arizona State University and BA
from Prescott College in Human Development with Equine Assisted Mental Health.

A husband and five grown children make up my family. We have two biological sons and three daughters adopted from Asia. They live in Washington, Oregon, and Arizona. In addition, we were therapeutic  foster parents for adolescent girls coming out of treatment centers. I also worked as a parenting coach, using Collaborative Problem Solving and Love and Logic.

Behavior is a language that children "speak" through actions; appropriate behavior is a set of learned skills. Instead of dwelling on problems, I encourage my students to find solutions. Among other things, we use a "Solutions Kit" found at  This website has many great resources for helping children develop social and emotional skills.

Hobbies and interests include reading, writing, hiking, biking, camping, traveling, swimming, riding horses, art, photography, gardening, cooking, and fiber arts. We raised Shetland sheep in Oregon and plan to start a new flock here once we are settled. Our animal family also includes horses, dogs and cats, including a Siamese-Manx cat named Concho!

Parent comments, questions, and ideas are welcome, as well as parent volunteers and visitors in the classroom and on field trips. Please let me know if you have anything you would like to share with the students! This includes special talents, interests, hobbies, and cultural information.

You may contact me at or by phoning the school.

Thank you for welcoming me into your wonderful community!
